A new shopping center under construction in a hot Galleria location counts a big-box store as well as an extended-stay hotel among its tenants.
A site plan for the Shoppes at Uptown Crossing at the southeast corner of Westpark and South Rice Avenue includes a Wal-Mart Supercenter, a TownePlace Suites Hotel, El Pollo Loco, a Chick-Fil-A, a Jack in the Box, aMattress Firm, dentist’s offices, an AT&T store and a Starbucks. The size of the Wal-Mart was not immediately available.
There is one 4,500-square-foot site left for lease, according to a brochure from Capital Retail Properties.
Capital Retail Properties is marketing the property, but representatives said they have signed a confidentiality agreement with the developer and cannot discuss the project.
The complex will also be home to a $6 million, 32,000-square-foot Micro Center, which will include a large showroom, offices and storage/stock space. Amegy Bank N.A. recently bought Micro Center’s current site inside the 610 Loop to build its new Houston corporate headquarters.
Houston-based Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Inc. is building the new computer and electronics store, which is being designed by Houston’s Powers Brown Architecture. However, the details of who is developing the larger complex and its construction timeline were not available.
