Bruce Walck is president of Houston-based Powers Brown Architecture.
Houston-based Powers Brown Architecture has named the company’s first president with the promotion of Bruce Walck, who has been tasked with overseeing all of the firm’s operations.
Walck, a principal with Powers Brown, will be responsible for streamlining the firm’s workflow to improve efficiencies, as well as developing strategic initiatives to expand its multifamily, manufacturing, medical and industrial project portfolio in new and existing markets in North America.
“Bruce is the rare architect who really is a collaborator,” Powers Brown CEO Jeffrey Brown said in a news release. “Many of his clients consider him not only a colleague but a friend, and it’s not uncommon for them to recommend him to their competition. Internally, he has developed into the shepherd of our leadership team, guiding us all in finding innovative, logical solutions to both day-to-day and long-term challenges.”
Walck joined Powers Brown in 2003 as a project manager. In 2008, he became the first Powers Brown employee to be promoted to join the firm’s founders as a principal.
In addition to his work in Houston, Walck was tapped to establish Powers Brown’s office in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 2015 and its Toronto office in 2017.
Among the architectural projects Walck has overseen during his career with Powers Brown are the 4.1-million-square-foot Daikin facility near Waller, the Galveston Downtown Transit Terminal, The Plaza at Enclave in Houston, Kelsey-Seybold’s administrative office building in Pearland and Churchill Square Apartments in Corpus Christi.
In addition to his responsibilities as president, Walck will also continue to work with clients to design a range of architectural projects.
Powers Brown also announced that Principal Lauren Amber Prestenbach has returned to the firm’s Houston office after previously relocating to its Denver office. She has previously designed office spaces for Clearview Dermatology, Digicomm International Inc., Summit Utilities and Travelers Insurance.
Powers Brown Architecture ranked No. 12 on the Houston Business Journal’s 2020 Largest Houston-Area Architecture Firms List, with 13 licensed architects in 2019.
In addition to Denver, Houston, Newfoundland and Toronto, the firm also has an office in Washington, D.C.
