  • Jeffrey Brown, FAIA inducted into the TCA College of Fellows

On September 27, Jeffrey Brown, FAIA, was named to the Tilt-Up Concrete Association’s College of Fellows at the Tilt-Up Convention and Expo in Atlanta. Jeffrey Brown, FAIA, FTCA, is a leading advocate for the design application of tilt wall technology. As a researcher, innovator, and practice leader, he has pioneered the construction methodology’s use in award-winning and commercially successful projects.

Jeffrey Brown’s two decades of exploration into the possibilities of tilt wall deals with misconceptions about this construction method-based form-making process, a debate he has taken head-on. Regularly designing and working in marginalized industrial environments, Brown has created a body of research that is widely recognized to be both influential and timely, focusing on teasing unforeseen architectural potential out of this low-cost construction method. Numerous investigations into cost structure comparisons, applicability to building types, market perception, and contractor capability and training have made Brown a nationally recognized authority. He advocates the benefits of tilt wall to developers, contractors, brokers, school districts, REITs, capital finance sources and architects through lectures, publications and presentations, pioneering the mainstreaming of this method.

In 2014, Brown was awarded the TCA Irving Gill Distinguished Architect Award, which recognizes one individual or firm annually for commitment to pursuing architectural design excellence and advancing tilt wall technology.

In the fall of 2014, Brown’s book Tiltwallism: A Treatise on the Architectural Potential of Tilt Wall Construction, a large format monograph that is a resource to architects and contractors, was released. Since then, Brown has shared the book’s research at the AIA national convention in Chicago and as part of the Authors in Architecture series at the Houston Center for Architecture.

Brown has been a member of the TCA since 2005. Since that time, he has served as a Board Member 2011-2019; President 2016; Vice President 2015; Membership Committee Head 2011-2014; Annual Convention Chair 2013; and Convention Speaker 2012-2019.
